Sojourners to Settlers: Tamils in Southeast Asia and Singapore

 

 

The Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) has launched the Tamil version of Sojourners to Settlers: Tamils in Southeast Asia and Singapore (ஊர் திரும்பியவர், வேர் ஊன்றியவர்: தென்கிழக்காசியாவிலும் சிங்ப்பூரிலும் தமிழர்) at its Sojourners to Settlers – Tamils in Singapore and Southeast Asia Digital Symposium held in Tamil on 1 May 2021. The book is co-published by IHC and the Institute of Policy Studies, and delves deep into lesser-known aspects of Tamil history and heritage in Singapore and Southeast Asia, examining evidence of Tamil connections with the region for more than 2,000 years.

Singapore Indian Heritage

Singapore Indian Heritage, a 556-page publication combines academic research with catalogue entries of the Centre's collection of over 300 artefacts, photographs and documents.

The hardcover book comprising a series of essays and photos, charts the journey of Singapore's Indian community from pre-colonial times to its contributions to nation building and current day dynamics.

Edited by Associate Professor Rajesh Rai of the National University of Singapore and Professor A. Mani of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan, the book was launched by Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) S. Iswaran at the Indian Heritage Centre.
