Step into the shoes of early Indian pioneers this Children’s Season at the Indian Heritage Centre from 31 May to 29 June 2025, – where history, culture and community come alive in the most fun-filled way imaginable!
Join us on an exciting journey of discovery and belonging as we explore how traditional Indian trades helped shape the Singapore we know today! From the scent of ground spices to the sparkle of handcrafted gold, children will discover our connections to the past through our exciting new exhibition, Let’s Try a Trade!. Children can pick up their personal Apprenticeship Booklet and 'learn the ropes' from garland makers, textile traders, spice grinders, dhobis, and goldsmiths, through hands-on activities, fun facts, and crafts.
The fun doesn’t stop there—children will be captivated by a comical, interactive, and multi-sensorial theatrical performance by Ooruga Collectives. Experience life in a time before smartphones and the internet, discovering the food, friendships, culture, and resilience that defined a generation.
To top it all off, children and families can take part in creative workshops and craft activities inspired by the trades and traditions showcased in the exhibition. It's a wonderful opportunity for children to learn through play and creativity while connecting with culture in a meaningful way.

This Children’s Season, your little ones can become apprentices of traditional Indian trades. Get hands-on with our revamped travelling exhibition – ‘Let’s Try a Trade’!From spice grinders to goldsmiths, kids will discover how early Indian communities built their lives, their homes, and their identities — one trade at a time. Each booth is packed with fun activities that awaken the senses — smell, touch, play, and learn history like never before!

New Children’s Spaces in Permanent Gallery, Level 4 From 31st May onwards Location : Level 4, Indian Heritage Centre Discover more about Indian folk dance forms such as Garba, Bhangra and Poikkal Kuthirai, as well as how shadow puppetry were used to tell powerful stories. Spin the Storytelling Wheel to uncover scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana, two legendary tales filled with epic heroes, and timeless adventures. Step behind a miniature shadow puppet stage through our puppeteer’s workshop and bring your own stories to life! Use fun characters to create your own mini-performance — just like traditional puppeteers. Let your child’s imagination take centre stage in this interactive celebration of culture, myth, and creativity.

Dress-up Corner 31st May - 29 June 2025 | 10am - 6pm Step into culture and colour at our Indian Traditional Dress-Up Corner! As part of Children’s Season, little ones will have the opportunity to try on beautiful traditional Indian outfits—including the Punjabi suit, lehenga, kurta, and veshti—and experience the joy of dressing up in traditional Indian outfits. Don’t miss this corner as part of our line-up of free crafts and family-friendly activities all month long.

FREE CRAFT ACTIVITIES Dates: 31st May – 29th June 2025 | 10am - 6pm Celebrate Children’s Season at the Indian Heritage Centre with a variety of free art and craft activities designed to spark creativity and connect children with heritage and culture! SPARKLE SQUAD– JEWELLERY CRAFT ACTIVITY Children can express their creativity by decorating their own jewellery, inspired by the craftsmanship of traditional goldsmiths.
MARIGOLDS MAKING CRAFT ACTIVITY For a touch of nature, children will create their own paper marigolds using crepe paper, brightening up the space with handmade blooms.
MAKE YOUR OWN BLOCK PRINT FABRIC CRAFT This hands-on, interactive activity introduces kids to the timeless tradition of block printing — a fascinating art form that has been practiced for centuries across various cultures. It’s an exciting, educational, and fun-filled experience that allows children to design and print their own patterns on fabric using specially crafted wooden blocks on small pieces of textiles.
"WHAT IS HOME TO YOU?" COMMUNITY WALL In conjunction with SG60, we invite children to reflect on the theme of home by drawing what “home” means to them. Their creations will be displayed as part of a collaborative patchwork community wall, showcasing their ideas and stories through art.
