Festival Indian New Year Open House Free
17 & 18 April 2021

Celebrate the Indian New Year this weekend at the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) and participate in an array of activities to get into the festive spirit!

The Indian New Year is observed by various Indian sub-ethnic communities in Singapore. Tamil families celebrate Puthandu on the first day of the Tamil calendar month of Chithirai, which fell on 14 April this year; the Sikh community observes Vaisakhi, which was on 13 April for 2021; while the Malayalee, Telugu and Bengali communities observe Vishu, Ugadi and Pohela Baishakh respectively around this time of the year too.

Visitors to IHC on 17 and 18 April 2021 will enjoy free admission, together with hands-on craft activities and cooking demonstrations that showcase elements of intangible cultural heritage that are practised during these festivals. Come revel in the rich culture and traditions of Singapore’s Indian communities at IHC this weekend!
